New Learning Services Provide Clear Path from Graduate to Skilled Professional

SAN DIEGO, March 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In the first program of its kind, an innovative partnership between leaders in healthcare workforce services and nonprofit higher education has answered the healthcare industry's call for an increased supply of well-prepared clinical professionals.

National UniversityAMN Healthcare, the innovator in healthcare workforce solutions and staffing services, and National University, a leader in adult education and accelerated learning, are working together to provide a sophisticated learning environment in the healthcare services sector for continuing education, client-customized training programs, learning management and professional practice management.

The state-of-the-art educational offerings will be provided through The Center for the Advancement of Healthcare Professionals at AMN Healthcare. The Center offers customizable, high-quality education and training programs for healthcare providers to build their future workforces.

"Healthcare providers facing growing shortages of clinicians now have customized education and training programs to help build the specific workforce they need," said Susan Salka, President and CEO of AMN Healthcare. "Our partnership brings together a unique combination of healthcare workforce and education expertise that clients can employ to train existing staff or prepare new graduates to meet the rapidly growing demand for patient care."

The nation's healthcare industry is suffering from shortages of many types of healthcare professionals, and this challenge is expected to worsen as demand increases and supply becomes even more constrained over the next decade. Although enrollments are rising in many programs, particularly for nurses, transition-to-practice readiness has become increasingly essential. In this increasingly complex healthcare environment, many healthcare providers are identifying a greater need for specialty training to ensure that recent graduates as well as current employees are fully prepared to meet immediate workplace needs.

The AMN Healthcare-National University partnership provides novice and early-career clinicians with a career development ladder to become in-demand professionals. The partnership can customize learning programs for hospitals, health systems or other healthcare enterprises, such as home health agencies and clinics, so they can build a workforce that will support their future success.

National University, the second-largest private nonprofit university in California, is a leader in developing curriculum for both classroom and online learning. Through the partnership with AMN Healthcare, the University's Center for Innovation in Learning will assist with developing modular learning programs that leverage the University's expertise in course design, content development and Learning Management Systems for online learning platforms.

"We are so very pleased to be partnering with AMN Healthcare on this very important initiative that supports the ongoing professional development of a new generation of healthcare specialists," said Dr. Michael R. Cunningham, President of National University and Chancellor of the National University System. "The future of higher education is in creating new pathways for lifelong learning such as this one, which is creating a clear path from graduated student to skilled professional in the healthcare industry."
